RIC to Manage Technical Development of GreenGabrovo.com

Environmental data is now stored indefinitely and open for new applications

The Regional Innovation Center (RIC) “Ambitious Gabrovo” is powering the technological foundation of Gabrovo Municipality’s new environmental portal — greengabrovo.com. The Center will handle the technical support and continuous development of systems that allow every resident and visitor to track air quality, river levels, weather conditions, and radiation background in real time.

A dedicated server collects data from the entire measurement network without time limits — every measurement from every location is stored permanently. Year after year, Gabrovo will build a valuable environmental history: seasonal air quality changes, river responses to rainfall, and long-term trends. These datasets serve as the foundation for predictive models, AI tools, and informed management decisions.

Alongside the server, a modern API (Application Programming Interface) delivers real-time data to the portal. Designed with a broader vision, the API is open to third-party applications including mobile apps, research projects, information displays in schools and institutions, and business solutions. RIC “Ambitious Gabrovo” invites developers and organizations interested in environmental data to connect with the center.

A Network That Keeps Growing

Air quality in Gabrovo is currently monitored across 8 measuring points, with plans to add 8 more. With 16 points in total, Gabrovo will host Bulgaria’s most comprehensive indicative air quality monitoring system. A new component — ambient noise monitoring — is also in development. Furthermore, Gabrovo’s proprietary river level tracking system places it among only three municipalities in Bulgaria with this capability, alongside Burgas and Plovdiv.

GreenGabrovo.com is currently operating in a test version, with features continuously expanding to include AI-powered tools.
