Gabrovo Municipality is initiating the development of a new green infrastructure strategy, focusing on the balanced use of natural resources. This initiative is part of the international project “Accelerating Climate Change Adaptation for Better Resilience in European Mountain Regions.”
The current green system development document for Gabrovo is valid until the end of the year. The new vision will include mapping of green areas in the city, tree planting, and pre-investment studies for future measures. Citizens, businesses, institutions, and academia will have the opportunity to contribute proposals to the strategic part.
An additional focus will be the development of an early warning and monitoring system for risk management. This system will enable real-time measurements, alerts for floods, hurricanes, and forest fires, and a mobile application for data exchange and inquiries.
From the Bulgarian side, the implementation will involve the Applied Research and Communications Foundation, the Regional Innovation Center “Ambitious Gabrovo,” and the Technical University of Gabrovo.
The project will involve 47 organizations from Europe, coordinated by the University of Milan (Italy), with activities continuing until 2028.
As a Regional Innovation Center, RIC Gabrovo is proud to support Gabrovo Municipality in this strategic endeavor, contributing to the city’s sustainable development and resilience to climate change.
