On 26.09.2022 new smart waste management system was implemented in one of Gabrovo’s biggest parks – Park “Koleloto”. Citizens can use the two integrated smart bins for recycling plastic packaging and bottles in one bin, and paper and carton packaging in the other. The two smart housings are from the BinkyPal series developed by a company from Gabrovo – Senstate Technologies and sponsored by Gabrovo Municipality.
The bins are equipped with multiple IoT sensors, such as sensors for tracking the level of waste inside the bin, solar panel, temperature and humidity sensors, as well as tilt sensor for alarming when the bin is in the wrong position. The data collected from the sensors is projected onto the Senstate Cloud platform where the state of the bins can be constantly monitored in real-time. This technology helps the municipality to overcome common problems such as bins overflowing with waste or making unnecessary trips to empty bins when they are not full enough. This way the CO2 emissions will also be reduced because the routes for waste collection will be optimised.
The more advanced bin for paper and carton packaging is equipped with an automatic press which is used to compress the waste inside so that the full capacity of the bin can be used at optimum.
