Cleantech Bulgaria together with Gabrovo Municipality organised a Youth Climathon for schools from the Gabrovo region which took place on 9.12.2022. Four schools, five students from each, participated in the competition. The students worked in four groups, focused on finding a solution to one common problem, which the Mayor of Gabrovo specified prior to the event – The generation of large amounts of waste in households due to no or very little opportunity to purchase goods without packaging. The kids exchanged various project ideas which were aiming to support the climate neutrality of our city in the future. At the end of the day, the group with the most innovative and feasible project proposition was chosen as the winner. All four groups came up with great and positive ideas, but the final winner was the group from High School of Science and Mathematics “Ivan Giuzelev”. Nevertheless, Cleantech Bulgaria and RIC “Ambitious Gabrovo” supported each participant with prizes, congratulating everyone for the amazing work. The winners took the big prize which was provided by Gabrovo Municipality and manufactured by Senstate Technogies – the smart bin BinkyPal. The smart waste management device will be installed at the High School and will aim to motivate students to recycle plastic bottles and metal cans even more. Also, it will allow them see in reality how IoT sensors and cloud systems are accelerating our development and leading us to transition into a greener and smart city.
